“I’m a drifter. That has been my life since I was 15 years old and left home, I’m always on the road.” Lenny Kravitz
The Leica M Monochrom Drifter was made for travel. The set includes a Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246), a Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. for stunning wide-angle imagery and an APO-Summicron-M 75 mm f/2 ASPH. for portrait and reportage photography. With a matching strap, pouches and a travel bag, the set is ready to take on the world.
The Leica M Monochrom ‘Drifter’ reflects the present day and the lifestyle of a cosmopolitan artist who travels the world and captures his experiences along the way in creative and impressive black-and-white photographs.
The Leica M Monochrom ‘Drifter’ by Kravitz Design Edition is strictly limited to 125 sets for the global market.
Technically identical to the serial production Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246), the camera body of the ‘Drifter’ edition is finished in special sepia-brown paint, made to wear slightly with use and develop its own character.
Selected elements of the camera, such as the accessory show, thumb wheel and shutter release, are finished in brass without a protective lacquer, made to develop a patina over time.
The body of the camera is trimmed in synthetic python leatherette, inspired by Stella McCartney's vegan materials.
The set is completed with two of Leica's most popular lenses: a Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. and an APO-Summicron-M 75 mm f/2 ASPH.
Both are finished in the same sepia-brown paint of the body. In contrast to the serial production model of the 28 mm lens, the lens in the set features the same type of non-removable, twist-out lens hood as the 75 mm lens.
The front rims of the lens caps and lens hoods are smoothly machined to reveal raw, uncoated brass as a special design feature.
To complete the set and the travel theme, the set comes with 'The Drifter Traveler’, a brown leatherette bag with ample of storage space. It safely houses the camera, the two lenses and additional travel essentials.
To further protect the lenses, two matching lens pouches are included. Additional necessities can be stored away in two vintage style pounces.
The matching carrying strap made of woven fabric is coated with the same synthetic leather as the camera.

Lenny Kravitz, born to an Afro-American mother and a Ukrainian-Jewish father in Brooklyn, New York in 1964, is not only a world-famous musician, songwriter, producer and actor, but also an accomplished photographer.
As a musician, Kravitz is a multi-instrumentalist who generally plays all instruments on his studio recordings and uses analogue recording technology to underline the retro-character of his rock songs.
As a visual artist, he has celebrated enormous successes not only with his design studio Kravitz Design, but also established himself as an accomplished photographer who published ‘Flash’, a book of his black-and-white photographs, in 2015.
‘I love the quality of the Leica M Monochrom’ admits Kravitz, ‘black-and-white radiates a feeling that touches my heart. I tend to see things in black-and-white. To me, it seems more authentic and timeless. It has that special something.’
On 24 May 2019, the Leica Galerie Wetzlar (Germany) will be opening ‘Drifter’, an exhibition of previously unpublished photographs by Lenny Kravitz.
With the 40 works shown in the exhibition titled ‘Drifter’, Kravitz now presents the second, impressive chapter revealing his passion for photography – and once again provides clear proof that he knows exactly how to use a camera.
‘I am a drifter. I am always on the road – a free spirit and open to adventure.’ He has made the world his home, ever since he left home at the age of fifteen.
In his exhibition of black-and-white photographs, he invites the viewer to join him on his journey. Alongside intimate portraits and laconic snapshots, he also shows the public precisely observed street scenes and still lifes.
Just like a hotel room on tour can be a place for withdrawal, Kravitz also uses his camera as a familiar tool to reflect upon himself, his travels, and the situations he experiences with a diversity of people along the way.
His spontaneity, complementing a talent for capturing the special moment, gives rise to images that seem timeless; yet they also reveal a lot about the photographic artist himself and his perceptions of the world.
The purchase of this camera includes a free 90 days membership of the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan, including 20GB of Cloud storage.
